A director of the firm, Nico specialises in High Court and Magistrate’s Court litigation, which he has been doing for almost 26 years.

Nico obtained his B.Proc degree from the University of the Free State in 1996 and later furthered his legal education by obtaining a LL.B degree in 2011. During his articles, he was awarded as the best performing student in the attorney’s admittance examination in the Free State by the Free State Law Society.  Nico was admitted as an attorney in 1998 and gained vast experience in trial advocacy in both civil and criminal matters. From the onset, Nico portrayed the traits, skills and wit of a remarkable litigant, which is noticeable from his high success rate. His appointment as a director of Du Plessis & Van der Westhuizen Inc. in 2011 therefore came as no surprise.

Along with his extensive experience in labour law matters, Nico has immense knowledge in municipal law and town planning matters, regularly assisting clients with legal advice and litigates on their behalf in this specialised field of law. It is evident that his reputation precedes him in his favourite battlefield, the court room. Nico has right of appearance in the High Courts of South Africa and regularly conducts applications, trials and appeals in the High Court without the assistance of an advocate. Nico’s determination, problem-solving skills and hands-on approach in cases make him an excellent litigant and an opponent respected by his peers. Nico always has his clients’ best interests at heart and believes in providing them with sound and honest legal advice. Nico not only thrives in his legal career, but also as a family man and father.  He believes in giving back to the community and is actively involved in community work.
