From early in his career, Ruurd focused on the commercial field of the law. He has been working closely with financial planners, advising them on estate planning, tax and related matters, since 1998.
Since 2000, Ruurd has been closely related to trust companies in the winding up of deceased estates and acting as independent trustee on various family trusts. Recently, Ruurd has completed an Advanced Course in Insolvency and Litigation and Administration from the University of Pretoria, furthering his knowledge in commercial, risk and estate planning.
Ruurd has a large client base ranging from accountants, brokers and bankers, whose clients he regularly advises on commercial matters. His background in commercial law and estate planning contributes to his knowledge in property matters and he has also practised as a conveyancer in transferring property and registering bonds. He is a member of the Fiduciary Institute of South Africa and regularly attends seminars, meetings and workshops. Ruurd is very involved in the community and currently serves as chairman of the governing body of a local primary school, and trustee of a golf estate development. Previously, he served as a counselor for the Rustenburg municipality, and as the national president of a cultural organisation for 6 years. Ruurd is the proud father of three daughters and loves history, hunting, fishing, golfing and riding his motorcycle.
