Director of the firm since 2015, Chris heads the Magistrate’s Court Litigation and Collections Department, and specialises in both Magistrate’s Court and High Court litigation in most fields of law.
Chris obtained his LL.B degree from the University of South Africa in 2007. From early on, Chris revealed his talent as a vigorous litigant through his participation in the L.E.A.D. through L.S.S.A. moot court competition, where he was awarded a certificate for the best performer in trial advocacy by the B.L.A. Chris joined the Du Plessis & Van der Westhuizen Inc. team in early 2010. Soon after his appointment as a director, Chris was appointed as an attorney with right of appearance in the High Court.
Chris began his legal career as a candidate attorney at Claassen De Wet Attorneys in 2007 and stayed on with the firm as a professional assistant after his admission as an attorney in 2008. He gained experience in civil litigation, collections, family law and criminal law. Chris extended his knowledge in law, obtaining a certificate in deceased estates practice in 2009. He has respectable experience in the field of deceased estates, although he favours litigation.
In addition to litigation, Chris is recognised as a leading attorney in the field of collections and in the collection of outstanding school fees. He continuously strives to provide his clients, which include a large number of schools in his area, with the best possible solutions to suit their particular needs. His exceptional ability to transfer knowledge to other people tasks Chris with the additional duty to train personnel, candidate attorneys and vacation students. He also provides training to his clients on a regular basis and gives seminars on recent developments in the law of importance to his clients. Chris believes that the generation of tomorrow should be equipped with appropriate knowledge to uphold the high standards of the profession. Chris is also an actively involved family man and father, with enormous compassion for people.
